Food Security Pilot Program

CCEDA puts a strong focus on community wellbeing, and our food systems make up a large a piece of this. We have been part of ongoing discussions about how Cortes could take a more proactive approach to food security, and we’re now pursuing several food-related initiatives, spearheaded by Loni Taylor. These include research and business planning for building commercial greenhouse capacity on the island, and an initiative to coordinate harvesting and processing of fruit and other food that currently goes unharvested. We're also seeking funding for an island food security coordinator who will connect with growers, gardeners, stores, cooks, and the food-eating public to help bring the pieces together into a vibrant, stable, and abundant community food system on Cortes.
